The "Sentinel of Liberty" is the second 1:4 scale statue devoted by XM Studios to Captain America and was realized to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the character. The piece was sculpted by Muzifal and released at the beginning of 2017 with an edition size of 750 samples. The distribution rights was awarded to Simply Toys, as an appreciation for the retailer's support to the Singaporean Company. The size is quite limited (33 x 20 cm), but the height is notable (more than 60 cm), due to the erected pose of the character and the base, constituted by the most classic support of a true statue: a prismatic pedestal, finely decorated. The piece depicts the American super-soldier in a very iconic pose, frontally placed with the right arm raised, performing the classic military salute, and the left one aligned along the side, holding the shield. The physique is imposing, with a large rib cage, well defined pectorals and abdominals, spectacular muscles on back. In my humble opinion, the quadriceps appear slightly underdimensioned compared to the rest (especially, the lower part of the legs), but this detail does not reduce the visual impact and the sense of strength of the overall figure. The colors are intense and the muscle contours are emphasized by both soft nuances and, above all, the excellent sculpt lines. The long gloves have straps on forearms, while the boots are rich in details (bootlaces, lace holes and pockets), carved in a masterful way. A large belt embellishes the waistline with its metallic buckle and a lot of military pouches, adorned with circular and star engraved buttons. As said, the base is a sort of cube shaped podium, with a faux bronze painting which enhances the museum look of the figure; the front and back panels are adorned with battle scenes of the II World War carved in relief and, in particular, the front panel shows a sketch of the first XM Studios statue devoted to the character. The piece is equipped with three interchangeable heads and the two shields (the classic circular one and the old, three-pointed shaped) which allows to change the display from the classic Avengers look to the earlier representation of the II World War soldier. All the heads are well sculpted and painted, with a large "A" on the forehead, the typical winglets on both sides (squared and just sketched in the more modern version, separately carved in the old one), veins on neck and two blue eyes which provide the figure with a good expressiveness. To be honest, among the many statues dedicated to Captain America, this is probably the one I like less: the very simple and static pose, in fact, is perfect to celebrate the hero and to highlight his own soldier spirit, but (in my opinion) it also reduces the overall aesthetics of the figure, especially on such a large scale. In any case, the piece is sculpted and painted very well and has an undisputable appeal: a quality which will be certainly appreciated by all fans of the hero.
